Each one does something the others do not — which is why combining two or three of them makes a better trip than spending the same days in one.
Kenya
Kenyan parks and reserves.
Maasai Mara
Open grassland, high predator density, and the northern end of the Serengeti ecosystem.
Amboseli
Elephant country beneath Kilimanjaro, with swamps that hold game through the dry months.
Samburu
Dry northern country along the Ewaso Nyiro, with species you will not see further south.
Ol Pejeta
A working conservancy on the Laikipia plateau, with Mount Kenya on the skyline.
Lake Nakuru
A fenced Rift Valley park built around an alkaline lake, and one of Kenya's best places for rhino.
Lake Naivasha
A freshwater Rift Valley lake, and the usual place a Kenyan circuit slows down.
Tsavo East
Vast red-earth wilderness between Nairobi and the coast, with the Galana river running through it.
Tsavo West
More broken, greener and more volcanic than Tsavo East, with the springs at Mzima at its centre.
Tanzania
The northern circuit.
Serengeti
The short-grass plains at the centre of the migration, and the reason the northern circuit exists.
Ngorongoro
An intact volcanic caldera holding a resident population of game on its floor, year-round.
Tarangire
Baobabs, a permanent river and the northern circuit's heaviest dry-season elephant concentrations.
Lake Manyara
A narrow strip between the Rift wall and a soda lake, with groundwater forest at its northern end.
Arusha
The gateway town for the northern circuit and for Kilimanjaro, below Mount Meru.
