Photography changes what a good safari day looks like. You want to be in position before the light arrives, to stay with a sighting long enough for something to happen, and to have a vehicle you can work from without three other people wanting to move on.

In practice that means a private vehicle, full days rather than split drives, and routes with stationary days built in. It also means choosing camps for their position rather than their spa.

The Serengeti, the Maasai Mara and the Ngorongoro Crater carry most of this, with Amboseli and Tarangire adding landscapes nothing else on the circuit has.
